Antibody Panel to Parathyroid Hormone Receptors (PTHR)

Introduction

Parathyroid hormone receptors 1 and 2 are members of the G-protein coupled receptor family. The activity of these receptors are mediated by G proteins which activate adenylyl cyclase and also a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system.

Parathyroid hormone receptor 1 (PTHR1) is a receptor for parathyroid hormone (PTH) and for parathyroid hormone-like hormone (PTHLH). Defects in this receptor are known to be the cause of Jansen's metaphyseal chondrodysplasia (JMC), chondrodysplasia Blomstrand type (BOCD), as well as enchodromatosis. Parathyroid hormone receptor 1 has been reported to be expressed in bone, breast, brain, colon, GI, kidney, liver, placenta, skin, umbilical cord, and uterus.

Parathyroid hormone receptor 2 (PTHR2) is a specific receptor for parathyroid hormone. It may be responsible for PTH effects in a number of physiological systems and may play a significant role in pancreatic function. Its presence in neurons indicates that it may function as a neurotransmitter receptor. ESTs have been isolated from normal testis libraries as well as cancer libraries from bone marrow, brain, germ cell, head/neck, and skin.
