| Background | Steroid receptors are ligand-dependent intracellular proteins that stimulate transcription of specific genes by binding to specific DNA sequences following activation by the appropriate hormone. Androgen receptors (AR) have been found in a variety of tissues, including reproductive organs, central nervous system and skeletal muscle.
The corresponding gene for the androgen receptor is NR3C4. |

| Format | State: Liquid diluted antiserum. BufferSystem: PBS containing 0.05% sodium azide as preservative. |
| Applications | Immunohistochemistry on frozen and Paraffin embedded sections: 1/100, staining of AR in rat brain with SP5175 results in intense nuclear staining. For fixation of frozen sections, 2% paraformaldehyde + 15% picric acid solution in phosphate buffer, pH 7.4 is recommended.
Western blot: 1/500, detects an ~110 kDa protein representing AR from rat brain homogenate. Immunocytochemistry. Immunoprecipitation. |
| Specificity | This antibody detects androgen receptor (AR) from human, primate, rat, and mouse tissues. This antibody does not detect estrogen, progesterone, or glucocorticoid receptors. |
