| Background | Thyroid hormones regulate general metabolism and normal cellular growth and development. These actions are regulated by the thyroid hormone receptor (TR), a ligand-dependent transcriptional factor. At least two genes and several isoforms encode TR. Recent studies have implicated a role of TRs in thyroid hormone-induced apoptosis in larval tissues and proliferation of adult cell types (1-3). |
