| Thyroid Hormone Receptor Alpha 2 Antibody | |
| Background | Thyroid hormone receptor alpha 2 protein mediates the function of thyroid hormone. There are three forms of the thyroid hormone receptors known as alpha-1, alpha-2 and beta. Studies have suggested that these three forms of the thyroid hormone receptor are abundant in most tissues; however, none of these three thyroid hormone receptors were abundant in the liver, which is the major thyroid hormone-responsive organ. Therefore another type of thyroid hormone receptor is believed to be present in liver. The identification of the several types of thyroid hormone receptor may explain the normal variation in thyroid hormone responsiveness of various organs and the selective tissue abnormalities found in the thyroid hormone resistance syndromes. |
